We’ve watched as election year politics continues to grow more intense with each passing day. Already in Arkansas, things have begun to heat up as the May 22nd primary election looms. Although very little will change for local Democrats in May, a lot of the Benton county races will be decided and make way for the difficult battle for national and state wide victory in November.

Any BCD members who were unable to attend the March 26th meeting, missed an outstanding opportunity to get acquainted with 9 of the candidates running in the non partisan judicial election which will be decided in May. All voters, county wide, will have an opportunity to vote for a candidate in each judicial category. We are very fortunate to have such a stellar group of candidates wishing to serve Benton county and Arkansas residents.

The political climate changes constantly and quickly. Our BCD program chair and advisory board strives to present the most timely and informative speakers we can obtain. Expect to hear in April, information related to health care laws, potential changes and plans of how AR will fit into this scenario.

There are numerous ballot initiatives competing for a spot on the ballot both at state and county levels that are extremely important and asking for voters to sign petitions to obtain one of three coveted spots on the ballot. Every attempt is being made to bring to you comprehensive information in order to make an informative choice now and again in November. In addition, candidates from our own district will be sharing their information with us. The hope is to also have candidates from other districts in AR speak and share their own plans to hold on to our Democratic majority in Little Rock. Our DPA Chair, Will Bond has also promised a visit later in the year.

There is so much information we need to stay abreast of, it is vitally important that each and every member strive to attend meetings to hear the latest and also to share information you might have with others.

We are excited that, during the past 6 months, we have had a lot of new members join and are now approaching the 200 mark. I encourage you to check the newsletter each month for a list of these new members, introduce yourselves and make them feel welcome. We have hard work ahead and will need all hands on deck, particularly through the summer and early fall.
