  • From the Desk of the President…………

This is the year we’ve been working and waiting for.

Elsewhere on this page you will see an article that names Bill Beck as Democrat of the Year 2011. Among other accomplishments, Bill has provided movies for us to hold fund raisers and all of you stepped up to contribute as you have in various other ways. Please note the treasurer’s report that shows BCD’s have over $10,000 in our bank account. This is thanks to the membership and supporters who have helped in the past. We don’t plan to stop and are, even now, asking members to bring their friends and neighbors to our “Spring Fling” luncheon and card party to add to this bank balance.

Why is this important? The primary objective of our group is to get Democrats elected to office. The stakes have never been higher than this election year. Our very democratic process is at risk. By the date of our next meeting, Arkansas candidates will have filed to run for office in preparation for the state primary on May 22..

It is just as important to spend our funds wisely as it is to raise the funds. While we would like to see more Dems running in Benton county, we do know that we will have a Congressional candidate in Ken Aden, and hope for a few surprises at the local level. These candidates are our first priority but that does not mean we can’t help other districts to elect candidates for democratic success at both state and federal levels.

I encourage each person reading this article to remain informed on candidates and issues and offer your best suggestions for where we can provide the most benefit for our money.
Bring these ideas to our meetings or contact me by calling 479-721-1633 or email sharon8307@sbcglobal.net .

Examples of ideas might be: (1) Radio advertising produced by DPA office in Little Rock to be aired on some of the smaller stations in outlying towns around the state, including Benton county. (2) Help in other areas. The national Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has just released a list of districts where Democrats have a good chance of holding or winning a seat that would reverse the current Republican majority in the U.S. House. Clark Hall who is running against Rep. Rick Crawford in House district 01 in Arkansas has been identified as one of the “emerging candidates”. For a complete list and explanation, please visit elsewhere on this web page.

The need is great and opportunities many. Let us hear from you.
